Preschool Lab At SHS

Susquehannock High School's FCS (Family and consumer science) program is offering district children the opportunity to participate in a preschool/ Pre-K program for the 4's age group. Child Care 1 and 2 courses are offered to 11th and 12th grade students and this program allows high school students to explore childcare and education career opportunities and develop effective and realistic parenting techniques, while providing valuable social experiences to the children prior to their formal academic programs.

High school students benefit by gaining an understanding of how children progress through developmental stages. Under the supervision of the FCS high school teacher, high school students work closely with the preschool students by planning and conducting lessons to prepare them for kindergarten. Preschool students will have experience with subjects like art, storytelling, supervising learning centers and coordinating games and activities that develop large motor skills. Most importantly, high school students learn how to effectively and appropriately communicate with young children.
